Semi Static Rope For Top Rope Solo, Aug 16, 2021 · Old dynamic rope works very well. I’ve used both dynamic and static ropes fairly extensively over the last 20 years of top rope soloing. Do not think that "semi-static" is something between dynamic and static. I've had thousands of feet of the sterling safety pro which has a higher amount of stretch than most static ropes. TR soloing is a great way to get in quick sessions, put in more laps, keeping warm on cold days, or when you're following a pitch and then hauling up a backpack. Static rope is preferred for top rope projecting, where fall forces are much lower than on lead climbing.
